Drama Ministry

The First Lutheran Drama ministry engages in a variety of theatrically-oriented activities throughout the year, including seasonal dramas for Advent and Lent, a fall theater and occasional dramas to enhance weekly worship.

Dessert Theater - 2012

the curious savage

Mrs. Savage has been left ten million dollars by her husband and wants to make the best use of it, in spite of the efforts of her stepchildren to get their hands on it. Her step-children commit her to a "sanatorium" hoping to "bring her to her senses." But Mrs. Savage is determined to establish a fund to help others realize their hopes and dreams. In the sanatorium she meets various social misfits, men and women who just cannot adjust themselves to life, people who need the help Mrs. Savage can provide. The self-seeking step-children are driven to distraction by their vain efforts to browbeat Mrs. Savage, but she leads them on a merry chase. At last her new friends conspire to get rid of her step-children, and through their simple belief in the justice of her cause, they enable Mrs. Savage to carry out her plans. While a comedy, “The Curious Savage” leaves the audience with a feeling that the neglected virtues of kindness and affection have not been entirely lost in a world that seems motivated at times only by greed and dishonesty.

Tapestry of Darkness

Witness and experience the final hours of Jesus Christ in the dramatic and choral production portraying his trial and crucifixion.

The Good Friday Drama/Cantata combines the acting talents of First Lutheran's drama ministry with the musical talents of its talented choir.

Written and directed by Pr. Rebecca Craig; Choral scores feature selected pieces from Ruth Elaine Schram's "Tapestry of Darkness" cantata, as well as original music by Joseph M. Martin, Larry Shackley and Keith Getty/Stuart Towend.

**Warning: Crucifixion was an extremely violent and brutal form of execution. Despite our "clean-up" and artistic license to make it suitable for a church setting, some scenes may still be too violent/disturbing for young children. Use your own judgment on whether you feel your child is ready to hear and see the anguished cries of the actor portraying Jesus as he is beaten and nailed to the cross.**
